This is the latest installment in a new feature where we’ll dive deep and get to know some of the familiar faces and fixtures in our congregation. This post marks the first profile highlighting our incredible Unity Singers who delight our hearts (and ears) every Sunday with original tunes and soul-shaking rhythms. Speaking of rhythms….
Kevin Jurica been drumming since before he was born. Kevin began showing an inclination toward music almost immediately, replicating rhythms that he heard and moving his body to music. His mother reports that he always seemed to have a respect for musical instruments and never banged on the piano or drums, but instead would create quiet, pleasing sounds. While Kevin is a gifted musician on several different instruments, drums are his first love.
Kevin received his first drum set in elementary school and began taking lessons. He participated in the middle school band and then joined the accomplished, award-winning drumline at Gregory-Portland High School, near Corpus Christi. After graduating from high school, Kevin went on to join the drumline at Texas A&M University–Kingsville. While attending A&M–Kingsville, Kevin was also active in the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Kevin went on to graduate from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi in 1997 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science. He has been married to Jenny for 18 years and they have two children, Anna (12) and Jack (10). Kevin and Jenny moved to New Braunfels from Houston in 2014 and enjoy the natural beauty and opportunities for fun that this area holds–not to mention to spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
Kevin has been playing with the Unity Singers for two years and enjoys getting to play original music (by Ron Brietzke) and flexing his creativity every week on the stage.
Kevin counts Dave Matthews Band, Ben Folds and Bob Schneider as a few of his many musical favorites and influences.
Career and Hobbies
When Kevin isn’t playing music or working as a product manager for Sphera Solutions, he enjoys investing in real estate, spending time outdoors and watching the Houston Astros and Texans.
If you’d like to visit with Kevin after one of the Sunday services, here are a few things to ask him about:
Ask him about his favorite vacation destinations.
Pick his brain about real estate investing and personal finance.
Ask him what hijinks his slightly neurotic Weimaraner (Angie) has gotten into recently.
