Unity of New Braunfels is thrilled to be on board with this marvelous opportunity to foster deeper connections and spiritual growth among our people and the surrounding community. In the first series, all the groups will be following the Infinite Connections curriculum developed by Mendhi Audlin, which lays the foundation for SpiritGroups by concentrating on the five Cs. Watch our Classes & Events section for registration forms to appear on January 19. In subsequent series, there will be different formats and topics, such as book studies or meditation.
The Five Spiritual Disciplines
The intent to develop these five spiritual disciplines underlies the purpose for all SpiritGroups.
What is a SpiritGroup?
In a nutshell, a SpiritGroup is small group of people (average group size is eight) who meet weekly to connect with one another while exploring a spiritual topic or theme. But it is much more than a social encounter, as Mendhi explains.
When do our groups meet?
In ten-week cycles, which launch three times a year. The dates for our 2020 cycles are:
- February 2 – April 6
- April 26 – June 28
- September 20 – November 22
Each ten-week cycle includes seven weeks of meetings, followed by a group social and service project.
Weekly meetings are 90 minutes in length and include prayer and/or meditation, exploration of a spiritual theme, and discussion. Groups meet at various times and days of the week, as determined by the host. Except for two SEE classes, all SpiritGroups will be using the Infinite Connections curriculum.
Where do groups meet?
In the host’s home or any agreed-upon location. We are launching our first cycle with five home groups in New Braunfels and Seguin. The two SEE (Spiritual Education and Enrichment) courses running concurrently under the SpiritGroups framework will meet at the church.
What is the time commitment?
We understand that many activities are competing for priority in lives today. One appeal of SpiritGroups is that the commitment is for a limited number of weeks. Some groups continue to meet cycle after cycle, while others take a breather between launches. Choose a group that meets at a time and/or location that is convenient for you. When you sign up, please know that you are making a covenant to attend each session for that cycle. Let your host know as soon as possible if unavoidable circumstances interfere.
